The 7 Acre Barbera Plantings on the LMP Ranch at Lanza Vineyards

We are very excited to be able to offer for the first time in 2015: Barbera from the LMP ranch at Lanza Vineyards

Three years ago, when the vinyard was planted, our hope was to be able to bring premium quality Barbera to the Pittsburgh area. We are happy to report that the vineyard is thriving and the fruit looks incredible for 2015. Plantings have increased in Napa and Sonoma as Americans rediscover this classic Piedmont favorite. With deep color, soft tannins and solid acidity, Barbera creates wines with berry and cherry influences when fermented quicly. As a subordinate in blending, its favorite partner is Nebbiolo. As the principle varietal, Barbera gravites toward Petite Sirah. Given that the Lanza Petite Sirah is so incredible, that would definitely be my choice; but not more than 8% proportion. Zinfandel can also be an interesting compliment in small proportion. Some barrel aging will enhance the tannin structure and lends a little vanilla to the wine's profile. Please keep in mind that this is a small planting of 7 acres. Order early!
